jennmill answers:

Ok…I HAVE RECOMMENDED THIS TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND I HAVE DONE IT. IT WORKS!!!

I have had medium to bad acne since I was 12 years old. I have tried everything from pro active, clinique, clean and clear, and even accutane for a month. I have used Benzaclin (5% benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin) and Tazorac (prescribed Retin – A cream) without this cleanse and they did not work. WITH THE CLEANSE, they do work, or it simply maybe the cleanse. Before this, nothing worked. It is called the “oil cleansing method.” My skin is very clear, no pimples, and silky smooth. I always get compliments on it.

We are told to stripe the oil and dirt from our faces, even to the point of depleting our skin’s store of natural oils, which are there for a reason — to clean, lubricate, and moisturize/protect skin. Using oils to cleanse skin chemically makes logical sense. As like dissolves like, meaning only oil (non polar) and fat substances can dissolve other like substances. Oil cannot dissolve water, and neither can water (polar substance) dissolve oil. BUT, oils can dissolve dirt and oils. For starters you need two things: 1) castor oil and 2) a carrier oil ( I will list below)

1) Castor OIl. Castor oil is a natural antiseptic (bacterial/microbial killer)
2) Carrier Oil. These hydrate the skin, while dissolving and “grabbing hold” of the dirt/oil and carrying it to the skin’s surface, as well as delivering the oil into the pores to moisturize the skin. There are several carrier oils, each good for a certain skin type. For example, Extra Virgin Olive Oil is good for dry skin, grapeseed/hazelnut oil are good for oily to combination skin. Among others that can be used are jojoba oil, coconut oil, almond oil, and hemp seed oil. There are several others that can be researched online so you can find the best fit for your skin type.

I have oil/combination skin, particularly in the t zone of my face (forehead, nose, cheeks). I use the grapeseed oil/castor oil mix. I do it in the evening, as when I did it 2x a day, my skin was a bit dry. So I wash with black soap, all natural (or you can use any other cleanser) in the morning and use benzaclin and aveeno. It works so very well! Below are the instructions on how to carry out the process.

– Mix about 65% of castor oil in your hand with 35% of the carrier oil you choose. Rub together in hands, and smooth/rub into your face (I understand this maybe weird at first, as we have been told oil is wrong for our acne).

– Get in the shower and let the steam hit your face (to loosen up the dirt/oil in your pores) or get a hot towel, ring it out, and place on face in 1 min increments as often as you like.

– Get a towel, ring it out, and wipe the remaining oil off of your face. Be careful not to wipe with the same areas of the towel, as it may need to be rinsed with water, then continue wiping off excess oil.

– Et Voila! Face is clean. The steam loosened the dirt/oil in pores, carrier oil delivered oils to the pores, bound to the dirt/oil and carried it to the surface. Your skin should feel supple and moist.

– You can add what you like to your face after this, acne medications (which will now be penetrated deeper into face, because pores are less clogged), moisturizers, etc. After I cleanse at night I put on Tazorac and Benzaclin.

Please give this a shot. It truly works!! I would not recommend it if it did not. Try it and tell us what you think.

All the Best.

How much makeup is “PC” or acceptable for a 16 year old?

So I’ve been wearing makeup for a couple years now, it started when I was about 13, almost 14 I think because I had alot of blemishes, my puberty started when i was about 8, i had my first period at 10 so i was an early bloomer with lots of hormones. I had bad skin and lots of spots, and i was just fed up. i wanted something that would make it stop, lord knows i had tried tonnes of anti-blemish, products to combat acne, i was even on the Clinique 3 step (which i started at 11 and still am on now) but nothing seemed to work; so i turned to makeup, something that would cover my skin, but not be nessicarily bad for it if you chose the right prodcuts.
So here i am around 2 years late and, i wouldnt say total makeup junkie, but i LOVE makeup, its pue accessory, its so fun and you can do pretty much anything with it. I even did my friends halloween makeup for them which ranged from rouged cheeks to full on scary monster makeup; practice really does make things good. anyway down to the question, i’m not seeking “oh you wear too much makeup for a 16 year old! way too much!” or similar comments i’m simply looking for when you were that age, how much did/do you wear? and what do YOU think is acceptable for a girl of my age?
so on a regular day, obviously i dont wear makeup in the house unless i’m experimenting, but on a normal day, to go out shopping or a day out in the town or whatever, i would wear:
moisturizer, not really part of the makeup but its there
primer (optional) i would sometimes use a primer, depends on weather i can be botherd or not haha
foundation, this would usually be liquid, seeing as my teenage spots have still yet to be subsided, even though i do have a doctor prescribed cream for them, i need pretty medium to buildable coverage, i still let some of my real skin shine though though, it’s not all that bad, its just the discolouration and scars i have left behind from acne and the acne still there
concealer, obviously for under my eyes and any blemishes that the foundation didn’t take care of.
now here’s for the tricky bit, i use bronzer
blush
and highlighter
it’s for a look called “makeup without looking like makeup” it’s basically to trick your mind into seeing different things.
i use bronzer in the hollows of my cheek ever so slightly to bring out my cheekbones
blush to give a slight flush to the skin
and highlighter to give me a healthy glow
followe up by mascara, and i don’t usually use eyeliner without eyeshadow, the two just go together for me and i usually wouldn’t wear one without the other, but i usually save eyeshadow for special days out or whenever i feel like experimenting
and i’ll usually throw on a lipgloss or lipbalm of some kind, just something to keep my lips looking healthy.

So to me, this really dosn’t look like too much, it may to some people, but it’s just what i’m used to and what i like applying.
so what do you think? what do you/did you apply?
just so’s you know, i have a geat quote that will shush the “haters” out there
“makeup is an accessory, you wear it don’t let it wear you!”
The bottom line is, i feel comfortable with people seeing me without my makeup, sure i hate my spots and they hurt quite a bit, but it’s me and if people don’t like me then that’s their problem. I’ve gone out without makeup on tonnes of times, i just prefer wearing makeup.
so what do you say?

jennmill answers:

The only problem with wearing the amount you describe is, for a young teen it often feels like…”if a little is good, then more is better.” The only problem with that is, it isn’t true…especially if you battle acne. I wondered if you use a Clinique foundation as well? I was going to suggest the Pro-Active for your breakouts. I never had enough of a problem to use it, but have heard good things from those who do. I just use Cover Girl for foundation. My skin is VERY light so I have to buy one of the lightest shades, but it usually blends pretty well.

It seems like many of the cleansers and makeups tend to bleach the lashes and brows, so I use mascara and a bit of brow highlighter. You should think mainly…”health.” Anything that possibly drys or clogs your pores sounds like it would be counterproductive for you and less healthy. You probably look fine with just a little foundation and mascara, but your emphasis should be “skin care.”

How long are dark circles under the eyes meant to last for?

I know that for some people dark circles are like spots, they pop up at annoying times, but fade, and most of the time they aren’t there, when they are there they can normally be linked to a reason, eg a week of not much sleep or flu or something.

But for me this is a different story. Looking back I’ve never had completely clear skin under my eyes, even as a child, but tbh if you look at most children they do have some form of circle or slight puffiness under the eye.

But in my teenage years it got a lot worse.

Now the rest of my skin is perfect, I have unusually clear skin for someone of my age (now 19) I’m blonde and quite fair, I only drink water and milk and have done all my life, I am slightly under weight and I did consider that lack of iron may be an issue, since my hair also takes an age to grow, also a symptom of iron deficiency.

Thing is that nowadays the dark circles under my eyes are so bad that I have to use 3 types of concealer and foundation in the mornings to mask it up. If I don’t even people I’ve known for years ask me if I’m ill or even if I’ve been hit.

My dark circles are in more of a block in the corners of my eyes around my nose, and spreading to about half way under my eye.

It’s not just purple, there is just general discolouration round there, I can also see visible blood vessels, red/bruised areas around the sides of my nose, and white completely colourless skin between my normal skin, and my dark circles.

The skin under my eye is also visibly thinner, so after I’ve applied all my make up you can still see that the area around my eyes is noticeably shallower than the skin of my cheeks.

Now I know what you will say, get a good nights sleep, whilst it’s true that most nights I am up till 1am, however I don’t drink, I rarely go out at night, and let’s face it, most of the student population are up till the early hours of the morning.

So since my dark circles are more of a long term problem rather than an annoyance that can be solved my a quick fix cream, I was wondering is there any sort of alternative treatment I should be looking at? Like vitamin supplements or natural health care remedies? Any advice would be great. I don’t want to cover up my dark circles with make up forever.

jennmill answers:

Everything you’ve said, i am the EXACT same, im even a student too. I reckon that, well in my case, its down to genetics since my Dad’s side of the family have bad bags, is this possibly the same for you?
In some cases Vitamin A in excess, too much sugar and salty foods dont help, don’t know whether this applies to you? But if so then i would try and cut down on them. Or if you have pale skin (like in my case), well this can enhance the appearance of dark circles, so perhaps try and get a tan? Here are some home remedies for getting rid of dark circles: www.darkcircles.net/remedy

It will help, but you have to use it for many weeks or even months to see a difference.

There are a few things you can try.

Apply cocoa butter to the scars. Studies have shown that regular application of cocoa butter helps to fade scars more rapidly than some other creams on the market. Also, look for creams that contain naturally healing ingredients, such as shea butter, jojoba oil, castor oil and rose hip oil.

Try an over-the-counter medication such as Mederma, which is specially designed to treat scars. (Any cream that is designed to get rid of scars will work.) Healing time generally takes up to six months before any significant improvement will occur.

Talk to your dermatologist about Retin-A topical creams. These creams have been shown to greatly reduce the appearance of scars. Retinal creams encourages cell turnover. The new cells then take the place of older, scarred cells. Retin-A requires a prescription.

Start dermabrasion treatments. A licensed professional will use a dermabrasion device to treat the scars. Tiny crystals on the end of the device essentially buff away the top layers of your skin. With repeated treatments, you will see a noticeable improvement. Expect your skin to be a bit red and irritated after each treatment.

Have a look here. You will find dozens of recipes for homemade skin care products. You will find several that could help you with this. One thing you could try is a simple dermabrasion. Mix a little sugar with some olive oil and rub it into your skin. It should help.

It should anywhere between a few weeks, and a few months to begin showing results. While I haven’t used it personally, I know somebody who has. It took her almost 4 months to notice significant results.

From what I’ve read about this cream, its effectiveness is directly related to the severity of the scars it is applied on. Yours seem to be quite old. I guess it could take a while longer. Around 4-6 months would be my guess.

jennmill answers:

Lose weight slowly; lose around 5% of your body weight per month. Try ab exercises, running, leg lunges, leg lifts, lifting weights, or brisk walking, especially on an incline or hill. Losing weight quickly will get you loose skin and will increase your chances of having your weight lost come back at you when you start eating like you used to again. Eat around 1800 to 2000 calories per day if you are a guy; 1600 to 1800 if you are a girl. Make sure you eat balanced meals according to the food pyramid. If you are a guy, 150 pounds is a healthy weight; if you are a girl, 150 is still overweight. Most people at your age and height have a small bone structure and a small frame man’s ideal weight for 5 ft 6 in is 141 pounds. A small frame female at this height should weigh 129 pounds. A healthy weight range is plus or minus 10% of the ideal weight for gender, height, and frame. A small frame 5 ft 6 in male’s healthy weight range is around 127 to 155.
Female: 116 to 142 pounds.
10 pounds per month is just a tad fast. Lose at most 8 pounds per month, or 2 pounds per week; that way the weight you will lose will be mostly body fat and increase your chances of keeping it off.

How to avoid acne during menstruation cycle?

Normally I have pretty good skin, no breakouts, no bumps or issues, I have a little bit of an oily skin problem but it doesn’t bother me too much as I live in a very dry climate-area.
However, a few days before and during my period every month I get pretty bad acne breakouts.
Is there anything I can do to lesson the breakouts?

jennmill answers:

Acne during menstruation can be affected by hormonal imbalances. Acne at this time is mainly influenced by androgens which are hormones that stimulate the sebaceous glands and hair follicles in the skin. One of the major players that can affect the levels of androgens is stress. Thus high stress levels can promote further acne flare ups. This is a vicious circle, because the appearance of acne may increase a woman’s stress levels. To avoid this take measures to control your stress levels. Perhaps you could take up yoga, meditate, have a relaxing bath anything that will work for you.

Any major player in causing acne can be diet. Studies have shown that acne occurs more frequently during the week before menstruation and these conditions remain present for about a week. Eating healthier around this time should help but it is best to have a balanced diet overall and not just at this time. If you eat healthily it will be obvious by your skin. Ensure you provide your body with the nutrients it needs like vitamins, minerals and supplements.

Consuming foods that you are allergic to can contribute to acne before menstrual period. Many women do not know about all of their allergies and can thus inadvertently eat foods that lead to acne, such as shellfish, nuts, soy products, and wheat or gluten. If you eat such foods and find yourself with acne before menstrual period, you need to carefully examine your diet to determine if it is the source of your skin problems.

Never underestimate the power of water, keeping your skin hydrated can yield great results.

Another factor that can have great results on acne is improving your skin care regime. Cleaning your face too much or scrubbing too hard can result in skin irritation or stimulate overproduction of oil and pores to clog. Products that contain alcohol should be avoided, stick to those with gentle exfoliation and those that contain natural treatments such as tea tree oil. There are many over the counter products, it’s a matter of finding what works best for you.

Cosmetic products can also play havoc with your skin. The best cosmetics to buy are those that are non-comedogenic, in other words oil free. These will prevent pores becoming clogged. Cosmetics and perfumes labeled hypo-allergenic will ensure you don’t get skin irritations or allergic reactions.

Try benzoyl peroxide, it works a treat

So if you experience acne during menstruation, don’t panic, instead use your efforts take measures on preventing it.

Hope i helped

Try using some aloe gel it works really well on dry, itchy, and irratated skin. Not lotion by the way gel that or cut of a piece of aloe vera plant and rub it were the skin is red. Great natural medicine that is easy to get and works really well. I had cut one time so my grandma cut a piece off of the aloe vera plant she had and rubed it on the cut and it healed up in no time. Oh, did I metion it heals cuts and burns to?

2. Nope- saggy skin n wrinkles come only with old age- yes, it has somethng to do with genetics, but if u really take care of ur skin, eat right n keep urself in gud health, u can prevent it to a certain extent. Dont worry nw abt whts to happen 30 years latr- thts ridiculous.

I’ve been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it’s at.

I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.

I’m 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.

Literally the best acne face wash I’ve ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It’s unique cause of it’s herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.

You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn’t work it will still save you butt on the return policy.

Well good luck and best wishes.

You need to start using weekly masks. Honey can be great as its a moisturizer and can heal the skin and any blemishes if you have them. All you need is a spoonful, apply to the face and leave on for 20min or more. The best mask I’ve ever used for smooth, young looking skin is pumpkin (from a can) same as all, you just need a spoonful, and leave on the face, then rinse. You will see such a hige difference the first time even. Pumpkin is full of vitamin A, the number one thing for smoothing the skin, keeping it clear and reducing wrinkles. Another home remedy (my 2nd favourite) is using cocoa powder. (make sure thats the only ingredient) cocoa is another anti aging ingredient. It increases circulation (so your skin will be nice and rosy after the mask) softens the skin immensely and also helps reduce wrinkles. This you have to mix with about a teaspoon of water to make a paste.
You can use masks 3 times a week, and you will see great results.

This foundation is very creamy this can lead to white heads
because usually young girl has oily skin so they don’t need
a foundation that is too creamy hydrating.

Try to use Oil free foundation this are better on young girls.

Ahh. I know what ya mean. I am 32 and noticed looking bit older – eating/sleeping well and moisturising all well and good but they have their limits.

Peels are good! Dia light is a light peel and they have a machine that flashes and puts collegen back into your skin. It’s good. Been having them. 700 for 6 tho. But i realy notice a difference. There are plenty like that. They remove top layer of skin and they work very well. Make a big difference.

Immadean is a fish oil supplement that makes a difference i’ve found but no wonder thing.

Tis all i know i prob wouldn’t try botox cos i’m worried about looking frozen (or people knowing i have stuff done) but maybe it’s good. I went to a skin rejuvination clinic and had a consultation which was good. Cos they advice different things for different people. Ie i have no lines but a big of early sagging from grinning so much!
Good luck!

Well first you want to make sure your face is well cleaned with a good facial wash and use pore tightener so nothing gets in them; then use concealer (I recommend ones from Sephora) to coverup them up, use primer as a base if needed. (:
NO FOUNDATION THOUGH; will make your acne much worse though it seems to cover better.

Waxing is the best way.
Since it is removed from the root, waxing will be painful for the first time, which will gradually reduce as you keep getting waxed regularly.
Regular waxing will slow down the re-growth of new hairs and it is also said to make hairs grow thinner over a period of time.
Skin remains hair free for 2 to 3 weeks

jennmill answers:

No form of hair removal is “forever” or “100%”. Consider IPL hair removal. It would be better for you than laser because it has the ability to protect your skin. Risks are higher with lasers.

POSITIVES: Most areas of body can be treated. Treatments are relatively fast. Only about 6-10 sessions are required per area, approximately once every 4-6 weeks (depending on area of body). You can get rid of about 70-90% of hairs. Minimal maintenance sessions are necessary, approximately once or two a year. It gives you great confidence and freedom. It has a proven success rate. Its the only thing that truly works.

NEGATIVES: It’s not cheap. Your lip or sides of face could cost $70-150. Between $125 and $250 per session to do your face. About $150-400 to do brazilian. Over $500 to do both legs.

You can shave, but that needs to be done every day. Hair removal creams last slightly longer than shaving, but you run the risk of an allergic reaction. You can use an epilator, which produces results similar to waxing, if you’re looking for a longer-term solution, or you can go through laser hair removal treatments for a permanent solution.

Try sugaring. You will probably have to get it from a beauty supply store, and it may be based in some of the same things that are causing a problem, I’m not sure, but it’s worth a try.

Other than that, there is only permanent laser hair removal, but that takes a minimum of 5 to 6 treatments most of the time, so you wouldn’t be finished before your vacation – as you have to wait for it to grow out some each time so the tech can see what areas to hit again.
