Hi skinnyem

You can try glycol acid for acne, or try tea tree oil.

Betty asks…

what skin care products would you recommend?

ok i am a 15 year old girl and have the usual teenage troubles with icky blotchy skin acne and like recently it looks like my face has completely broken out with little icky bumps and stuff and yes i wash my face and im a very cleanly person so its not because im like filthy or like to writhe in my own filth or something disgusting like that) sooooo…i was wondering if anyone could make a suggestion of a facial cleanser or something (from professional knowledge and personal experience) that will clear and/or cover all this mess up. PLEASE HELP ME!!

jennmill answers:

Okay, I’m 15 almost 16 and what i have found to work really well is Neutrogena’s oil free acne wash, and St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I use both once a day and within the first night, i notice differences! The redness is reduced and the acne is minimized. The only thing about the neutrogena is it is like a deep cleanser so you break out before it gets better. The reason for this is because its bringing all the dirt thats hiding under your skin to the surface.but the good thing about this is that once its gone, its gone. Your skin will stay completely clear if you continue to wash your face. Another thing is, make sure you have a really nice creamy moisturizer, becasue when you change cleansers or use an acne cleanser, your skin needs time to get used to it, so it may get dry. But with a good moisturizer that can be fized easily and fast. Ow i know this is a lot that i’m telling you 😛 but i like doves moisturizer for dry skin. Its really nice. I reeally think you should try this. I had bad acne on my forehead and my nose, and my skin is so clear now! The redness is even going away in my cheeks. Good luck and i really hope this helps! I know it worked for me, so you never know! 🙂

Thomas asks…

clearing teenage acne?

I am 16. And i have terrible skin. It always is bad, blotchy and red and covered in scars. It used to be because i squeezed pimples and blackheads all the time, but I have lessened the amount I do it now. I have also cut down on the sugary and fatty foods I eat. I think I have a reaction to something I eat reguarly but I cant for the life of me figure out what it is.

I wash my face once a day with cleanser (only once because it dries out my skin) and once with water, I always moisturse, and I do a skin scrub ever 1-2 weeks and I also have dug out of the cupboard neem leaf extract spray which supposedly clears acne.

Its not ACNE, its only in my t zone which I know is normal for teenager and due to hormones etc. but I dont know what to do, its really bad. Especailly during ‘that time of the month’ and then by the time it clears its that time again.

anyway any help i would appreciate so much. I have normal to dry skin sometimes oily in my t zone and I use Ahava and dermologica skin care products.

Retinoids like Retin-A or Differin and lotions containing alpha hydroxy or salicylic acid can help shrink the opening of the pores

Best Practices
# Wear protective clothing and hats as an additional measure of protection.
# Avoid the sun during peak hours (10:00 a.m. To 4:00 p.m.)
#Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes BEFORE you go out into the sun
If you go into the sun immediately after applying sunscreen, stay in the shade for the first 30 minutes.
#Reapply your sunscreen about every 2 hours.
#Use an SPF-containing lip balm whenever you are out in the sun.

Tips for Preventing Breakouts
* Choose “noncomedogenic” hair, skin, & makeup products.
* Avoid touching your face with your hands. Hands can spread bacteria to facial pores.
* Rinse off soon after working out to help prevent sweat and skin oils from mixing and clogging pores.
* Avoid overwashing or using harsh scrubs. These can cause excess oil production.
* Keep stress under control. Stress doesn’t cause acne, but it may lead to overproduction of skin oils.
Acne is caused by the clogging of the skin pores, due to excess sebum or oil production. When the skin pores get clogged, bacteria and dirt can get easily trapped inside the pores, which eventually, causes infection. The result is inflammation and redness of the infected area, which we can recognize as acne or pimple.
